A Fleetwood Mac reunion, and a tribute album

Stevie Nicks confirmed the Rumours that Fleetwood Mac are in fact getting back together for a tour in 2013 but not mentioning anything about a new album. This made my day, tt also made me remember something I’ve been seeing all over Twitter and the rest of the internet. I know it’s old news but I’ve been busy.

Please stay and read some things you already knew:

Listen to this:

Oh Alison Mosshart, I love you more with each passing day. The Kills have really pulled it out of the bag with this one. Alison Mosshart’s vocals purring over a ghost-like bassline and a clunky drumbeat as it opens, it’s a beautifully understated version of the original.

Stevie Nicks wrote the song in a corner of a recording studio, about her failing relationship with Lindsey Buckingham. I think The Kills do it justice, capturing the sense of not knowing and the helplessness I always felt in the lyrics.

So, this track is part of a whole album of Fleetwood Mac covers, a tribute to one of the greatest bands in history. It’s called Just Tell Me That You Want Me and will include tracks from artists including Lykke Li, Karen Elson, MGMT, The New Pornographers and Best Coast. Even Marianne Faithfull joining the party with a cover of Angel.

In fact, here’s the whole thing:

Best Coast’s version of Rhiannon is another highlight, one of the best pop songs ever written, it blew Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 album out of the water. Bethany’s Consentino’s sweet Californian melodies add a happy and very radio-friendly element to it. I also love Karen Elson’s Gold Dust Woman. It’s been one of my favourite songs since I heard Rumours as a kid, but I like Karen Elson’s take.

This compilation has already recieved so much positive feedback from the press and fans of the artists on it and Fleetwood Mac, a testament to the strength of the original recordings.

It’s out on 13th August so get pre-ordering.
