Jack White

After the rather saddening end of the White Stripes last year the world’s been watching Jack White, waiting for his next move, but now, thanks to Twitter, everyone just found out he’s releasing a solo album.

The title has already been decided, Blunderbuss, to be released on 24th April on his own label Third Man. Exciting stuff.

There’s also a single from it, available to listen to on the good old interweb, Love Interruption:

or this one because that one doesn’t work anymore. (updated 1/03/2012)

There’s something a bit Johnny Cash-esque, all the “I want love to kill my mother”, and then “I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me”, yeah, let’s fight with love because it’s shit and it fucked us over first. Welcome back Jack, not that you ever really went anywhere, I think we’re all waiting to see how the first project that’s really all his will turn out, by his hand and under his own name. It’s already interesting.

Goodbye White Stripes.

According to BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Jack and Meg White have decided to put an end to The White Stripes. They said that it wasn’t about artistic difference or health issues, but really becuse they didn’t want to ruin a good thing. 13 years and six studio albums is a pretty good run and the band has gathered a legion of fans that are sure to follow the pair’s other projects. For me though it feels like the end of an era, they were one of my favourite bands as a teenager and remain so now. It’s a good thing then that The Dead Weather and Raconteurs are both brilliant substitutes.

I suppose at least now there will be no more shows to cancel and so no more pissed off and disappointed fans, loyal as they may be. Goodnight and good luck Jack and Meg, thanks.
