ON AN ON are pretty much the result of a band called Scattered Trees’ members, well, scattering. Originally a 5-piece, Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing were the last Trees standing, just weeks before they were due to go into a studio to start work on a new album. Luckily, it wasn’t a full-blown band break-up, Nate, Alissa and Ryne decided, whilst waiting in a queue to see Miike Snow at this year’s SXSW, that they would do something, just the three of them. Maybe that notion of getting on with it is where the name ON AN ON comes from (no, not AND…)
A few months later and they trio have come up with a 10-track album, Give In, due for release on 29th January 2013 on Roll Call Records. That’s a rather distant horizon as upcoming release dates go but this caught my attention today:
This is the first track off the album to be sent out into the bloggosphere for general consumption. Ghosts is quite a lovely blend of smooth synths and a scuttling drum pattern that rattle about while the vocals sort of hum and croon (in a synthy way) over the top. It’s a nice, smooth track. While it’s not exactly a show-stopper, it does slow down in places and then spring back to life again which makes damn sure you keep your ears on it.
What’s more, you can get it for free if you sign up to ON AN ON’s mailing list here. These three could really be on to something and I reckon the album could turn out to be something special, you’ll just have to wait for the new year to find out…
