I posted about a song call Tiniest Seed by Angel Olsen a little while ago. Since then, her label, Bathetic Records, has released a compilation album (available worldwide on iTunes and Spotify) called Miracle of Love. Angel Olsen shows off her incredible voice on opening track Acrobat. I maintain that this girl is an impressive new talent, she sounds like some kind of Laura Marling/Joni Mitchell hybrid with a heartfelt warbliness that is charming to say the least. Anyway, give Acrobat a listen:
It’s a bit more ‘out there’ than Tiniest Seed but it is lovely just the same. It’s a bare-bones track, honest, unpretentious and not quite as gentle as the opening minute might make you think.
Angel Olsen’s voice just fascinates me, I think it has something to do with the way she goes from a gentle little whisper to a painful warble in a way that could almost break your heart. It’s all a bit raw, I think that’s got a lot to do with it too. In any case, I am very much looking forward to her debut LP Halfway Home, which comes out on 4th September.
