Cold Specks, real name Al Spx, is a 23 year old canadian-come-londoner. In possession of a phenomenally haunting voice, she has been touring the UK and Canada with the likes of Josh T Pearson and St Vincent and gathering an army of fans. The UK seemed to prick it’s ears up properly after she put in a stunning performance on Later… With Jools Holland in November. Spx herself calls what she does “Doom Soul”, a dark sound that’s raw and warm and comforting all at the same time, meditative The Guardian called it and they’re not too far off if her debut single Holland is anything to go by:
and it’s b-side:
She’s recording her debut album at the moment with producer friend Rob Ellis, but so far no news on how long it’s actually going to take… Hopefully not too long.
Here’s a Live Session video she did for indie/cool kids about the interweb The Line Of Best Fit
The Later… video is also worth a look if you missed it on the BBC but I quite like this one, definitely hoping to see this released as a single soon. Keep your ears peeled for this girl.
